SCLC Christian Education Conference on 10th May 2025 from 9:30 am - 2:30 pm
SCLC will be using the Accelerated Christian Education (ACE) Curriculum. This curriculum has been around for decades within the UK. ACE can also take children from Year 1 through to university level.
The ACE curriculum works towards the International Certificate of Christian Education (ICCE). This certificate has been recognised by several of the top universities in the UK.
SCLC will complement the ACE curriculum with deliberate collaborative learning. This is where children will learn to socialise and work together.
Every student's academic year will be planned out in order to identify specific goals for them to have achieved by the end of the year. This will be done using the student progress chart. Student's will be able to track their progress through each term using the goal check report. The supervisor will also be able to monitor how well every student is doing.
We want to first glorify God in the lives of our children but also raise children who are a great use to our society. The aim is to build spiritual character within the child that will also be desirable to the world at large. In order to achieve this, we will be deliberate about praising good behaviour. We will also use progress reports. These will identify different character traits that we would like the children to emulate. Additionally, they will provide an opportunity for acknowledgement and celebration when the child exhibits the desired behaviours.
Each week the child will set their own goals. the supervisor will make sure that those goals are in tune with the goals set for the term and academic year as a whole. There are two types of goal cards for primary school aged children and secondary school aged children respectively.
Children will take tests for each subject to ascertain what level they will begin the curriculum at. This is to ensure that the children are engaging with material that is suited to their level and challenges them appropriately.
Students will work through a series of workbooks for each level. They are encouraged to memorise a portion of scripture in each workbook. Every year, the child will go through at least 72 workbooks. This means students will memorise at least 72 verses over the course of the academic year.
Children will be encouraged to do public speaking. They will read a variety of literary works and they will be required to deliver an oral report on what they have gleaned from their reading. They will also write book reports on the books they read.
The child will be encouraged to take ownership of their own education. From as early as reception, we will be deliberate in instilling within the child a sense of responsibility with regards to their academic journey.
As the children progress through their workbooks, they will also assess themselves using score keys. Initially, they will be supported to ensure that they are scoring themselves correctly. However, the children will soon understand what is expected of them. This process of self learning will help the child to be an active learner and develop within them the self-motivation that will enable them to successfully complete their studies and also nurture the resilience and drive vital for higher education and working life.
